Getting into the French health care system.

Getting treatment in the UK.

Once you are registered and living permanently in France, your rights to treatment under the NHS change. See http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleId=1963
Arrangements can be made, but this needs to be put in place by your ‘Medecin Traitant’ in France probably in consultation with a UK consultant.  You will be liable to charges in the UK.  If you are travelling abroad remember to apply for your EHIC card from CPAM.  It is free but it must be renewed annually.
Getting treatment in another EU country.

EU member states have reciprocal arrangements.   Full details here:

Top up Insurance.

Not all insurance companies ‘Mutuell’ or ‘Complementaire’ take on people affected by cancer. You will need to shop around for the best cover.  If you need prosthesis annually, make sure it is included in the contract.
Travel Insurance

Make sure you have cover!  Treatment abroad may be expensive.
Ensure you have your EHIC card.  This is available free once you have your ‘Carte-Viuale’.  It is only valid for 12 months, so remember to renew in time if you already have one.  It takes about two weeks to come through.  You apply for it at your local CPAM office unless your health insurance cover is arranged through your business insurance.
