Our branch supports people who live in the Vendee (85).

The Team

We haven't yet had many clients but our team now stands at 16  members with 3 more in the pipeline and we now have the whole of the  Vendee covered.

In March we will be having our first AGM.   For various reasons we have sadly lost 4 of our original team over the past year but have two new members in the pipeline and as soon as they have done initial two training days they will be fully fledged, up and running.

Training

The 7th and 6th September were really hot days and we were fortunate enough to be offered accommodation  at Le Grand Barbiere, just outside of Chantonnay to hold our third training day.  It was lovely and cool in the large games room where seven new Vendee members and one from the Deux Sevres completed the two day course.  Four people who had already done the training decided to refresh.  Many thanks to Jenny, Judith and  Leslie for making it all so interesting.   Three  more advanced training days are planned.

  1. An in depth look at the French Health System

  2. A day for enhancing listening skills

  3. Bereavement - an emotive course for just two or three people who are willing to act in this capacity.

Autumn Fair

On the 24th October we held an autumn fair at Claranne’s Pantry, St Paul-Mont-Penit.  We had all the attractions of an English summer fete - BBQ, massive quantity of English books, raffle, tombola, bric-a-brac, superior second clothing. a superb cake and produce stall which also did refreshments and last but not least rain.  Despite the foul weather we made 650 euros.  Well done Angela, Val and Elaine and many thanks to Claranne’s Pantry for the use of their gite without which the day would never have been possible.  Typically the sun shone all the way home.

Official Recognition

A partnership contract has now been signed with the CHD Hospital in La Roche sur Yon , which means that they will give our name to any new English speaking patients.  They have also asked if one of our  French speaking members will be present when the initial diagnosis is discussed.  We are also now working closely with La Ligue contre le cancer, who have agreed to display our literature and to have English magazines in the waiting rooms and to include English books in the library.
