Branch News
The CSF Sud de France (11,9,66) branch has gone from strength to strength since becoming operational on 6th April 2009. We now have over 60 members, but are still looking to recruit members, particularly in the Ariège.
Sadly our founder President, Jeff Turner, lost his courageous fight against cancer on 6th July. Jeff was always so positive and determined to beat his disease, and had worked tirelessly to set up this branch of CSF. The new bureau, department leads and members are committed to continue his work.
We are now particularly focusing on publicity to ensure that the people who need us know that we are here for them. An increasing number of people are contacting our helpline, and we know that clients have come to us as a result of seeing posters in both Carcassonne and Toulouse
Hospitals. We are already using e-mail networks, English language newsletters and radio media to support our aim of establishing and maintaining a public profile. We will also be contacting all appropriate hospital departments and sending information to GPs, pharmacies and nurses.
A group of volunteers has been working to enhance the skills development aspect of the existing Active Listener training programme. This will be ready to be rolled out before Christmas, when we will be training some more Active Listeners.
Our fundraising strategy has been very successful and events have included a garden party (shame about the weather!), raffles at private music events and a sale of unwanted building materials. In addition, we have received many donations, especially in memory of Jeff Turner.
